Skincare Tips for your 40s

Skincare Tips for your 40s

“You don’t look a day beyond twenty!”

Oh what some of us would give to hear that being said to us. Alas! Aging is as real as it gets, and no matter how much we wish, it’s one thing we can’t stop indefinitely.

As we age our skin starts to lose its moisture and experiences a decrease in the production of collagen and natural oils which in turn makes it look dry, less plump, and well…old.

Wrinkles and fine lines start appearing on the skin with each passing day. And the skincare mistakes that people make in their early 20s and 30s can be seen on the skin as they age.

And while getting to grow older is indeed a privilege, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to remain youthfully radiant for as long as we possibly can. And while you can’t stop the clocks from turning, you can try to extend the time of your skin looking young and fresh by taking out the time to care for it a tad bit better.

It’s never too late to develop a regimen that will help give back life and glow to your skin. There are tons of things you can do for a healthy and glowing skin that are actually quite effective and easy to implement. As one enters their 40s, an ideal skincare routine should contain both corrective and preventive measures and in the following paragraphs we’ve compiled a few points that will surely make it seem like time has stopped for a while.

  • Moisturize

Moisturizing is a very important part of any skincare routine, especially during your 40s. As mentioned previously, with age our body’s ability to produce natural oils decreases significantly, leading to dry and dull skin. It also causes skin sagging and for wrinkles and fine lines to become more prominent and deep. Religiously moisturizing the skin at least two times every day is a must for supple and hydrated skin during your 40s. Opt for a gentle and lightweight moisturiser that suits your skin. Your ideal moisturizer should contain hydrating and nourishing ingredients like vitamin E, aloe vera and hyaluronic acid, like the Leovard Multicream.

  • Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliating plays a major part in your skincare regime as it helps to remove dead skin cells and plays a part in rejuvenating the skin by sloughing away dead skin cells. This leaves your skin looking and feeling soft, radiant and youthful. It also helps to fade blemishes, age spots and lends brightening to your skin, making you look years younger!

  • Don’t skip sunscreen

The number one cause of skin aging is not using sunscreen. Not just people of a certain age but everyone should use sunscreen because of its skin protecting benefits. As you are exposed to the sun's harmful UV rays that contribute to skin aging, you’re more likely to develop dark spots that take away years from your skin. These rays can also cause the existing wrinkles to deepen. Therefore, sunscreen should be a part of your skincare no matter how old you are and more so as you grow older. Try protecting your skin from the sun even if you're staying indoors. So skipping sunscreen is something you definitely can’t do!

  • Use vitamin C

Vitamin C is known for its skin brightening properties and is often found in skin care products aimed at anti-aging. It helps to repair the damaged cells to maintain fresher looking skin. Furthermore, it helps to lighten dark spots and also works by fading any acne scars, blemishes and age spots. It’s also quite effective at combating wrinkles and fine lines. Another lesser known fact about vitamin C is that it helps to increase the production of collagen which is essential for the skin to look fresh and plump and gives it the hydration that it needs.

  • Use an eye cream

The first thing to give away your age is the crow’s feet near your eyes. The area around your eyes is extremely thin and fragile and hence more prone to wrinkles and fine lines. Which is why under eye creams are so popular and mostly targeted towards people in their late 30s and early 40s. Hyaluronic acid is quite effective at combating fine lines and keeping wrinkles at bay, and is a must have ingredient in your eye cream. Which is why the Leovard Lip Luster doubles as an under eye balm. Not only does the hyaluronic acid plump up the area, the added vitamin C lends it the brightening it lacks, helping to transform your entire face.

  • Diet

Having a healthy diet is extremely important because what we eat will ultimately show up on your face. If you live off junk food and sugar laden treats, you will likely have a dull and drab complexion and a skin that is also more prone to breakouts. So try to cut sugar from your diet as much as possible and you’ll be surprised at the results that begin to show up within a few days. Opt

for foods that are high in probiotics as they are good for your guy’s health as well as antioxidants which are great for the skin.

Takeaway

Aging is inevitable and definitely not something that one can evade. However, at the same time, it’s not a curse and one should strive to age gracefully. However, working hard to keep it in its best condition is one way of cherishing it and definitely something we should all strive for. So here’s to striving to look radiantly youthful even in our 80s and to always staying young at heart
