Skin care resolutions for the New Year

Skin care resolutions for the New Year

It’s finally that time of the year again; a time to not only reflect on the year that has passed, but to also focus on new goals and dreams that one wishes to achieve in the coming year. While an overnight magical transformation is unlikely, sitting down to actually write out one’s resolution for the upcoming year can help to start it off on a positive note.

Part of our new year’s resolution includes taking proactive steps to attain healthier and glowing skin. Instead of letting it go and neglecting it for the better part of the year, only to realize its worsening condition just before a big event or special occasion, and trying to do as much damage control as possible, we vow to be more mindful of the choices that impact it, every single day. That includes our diet, lifestyle and skin care decisions.

So if you’re interested to know what we’re planning for the upcoming year to achieve more youthful, radiant and glowing skin, keep on reading.

Not sleeping with makeup on. EVER.

For starters, this is something I’m sure every one of us struggles with. We’re all tired after a long day, and can’t wait to crash into bed. The streaking mascara and the smudged lipstick can wait until tomorrow. NOT! If you want your skin to stop acting out every so often, this is one thing you must never do. Sleeping with makeup on can wreak havoc on your skin, resulting in clogged pores, acne breakouts, eye infection and much more. So we’ve vowed to never ever sleep with our makeup on, and to cleanse our skin every night before going to bed, even if it’s the last thing we do.

Moisturizing religiously.

For those of us with oily skin, skipping moisturizer can sometimes be so tempting, because we feel we can do without it. But in reality, all skin types require moisturizer, even oily skin. In the absence of moisture, our skin overcompensates by producing excess oil and sebum which creates a disbalance in our skin, resulting in frequent acne breakouts. So despite having oily and acne prone skin, we vow to moisturize religiously.

Not skipping sunscreen.

Ahh, another thing that many of us find super hard to be consistent with; applying sunscreen. We’ve been made to think that it’s not important, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Sunscreen is imperative for the protection of the skin and keeping it as youthful and radiant as possible. Excessive sun exposure can result in wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots and even skin cancer. Something we absolutely don’t want, going into 2023.

Looking into anti-aging.

If you’re someone in your twenties, it’s not too early to start looking into anti-aging products. It’s around this time that the skin cell turnover decreases and our body’s ability to replenish collagen also takes a hit. So incorporating anti-aging ingredients such as vitamin C, peptides and antioxidants can help your skin remain youthful. And since none of us are getting any younger, one of our skincare resolutions is to take anti-aging seriously now, rather than having to go under the knife to fix it all up, later.

Incorporating more organic products.

If there’s something we’ve all learnt over the past few years, it’s the importance of staying as close to natural and organic products. Be it food or skincare, naturally derived products are far more nutritious and healthy, having positive and lasting consequences. Organic skincare, like the Leovard skincare solutions, is far more gentle than its toxic counterparts which are laden with harmful and harsh chemicals that do more damage than good in the long run. Artificial fragrances and additives all wreak havoc on the skin, leaving it feeling irritated and inflamed. As a result, going forward into 2023, we’re going to be making as many organic choices as we possibly can.

Drinking more water.

The recommended daily intake of water for adults is eight glasses. On good days, most of us can hardly manage four. But increasing our intake of water is of utmost importance when it comes to attaining healthy and radiant skin. Not only does it help to flush out toxins, it’s important for all bodily functions, ensuring its optimal well being. So whether it be through infused water or carrying a bottle of water with us at all times, we vow to increase our intake of water in the coming year for glowing, radiant and youthful skin.

Eating a balanced diet. As much as possible.

Food plays a huge role in how our skin looks. If we’re stuffing our bodies with processed foods, carbs and high sugar items, it’s no wonder our skin looks the way it does. Instead, we vow to opt for more wholesome food options such as leafy greens, fruits and lean meats to ensure that our skin looks as youthful and glowing as possible.

Taking out time to exercise.

A great way to get your endorphins running and achieve healthy glowing skin is to get in some exercise every single day. Be it going for a jog or hitting the gym a couple of days a week, exercising is a great way to keep your skin healthy and thriving and is something we vow to make a part of our daily routine in 2023z

Takeaway

The above is a list of just a few of our skincare resolutions for the New Year. You may write out some of your own or take inspiration from ours; the goal is to make conscious decisions to ensure that our skin is as healthy and thriving as possible in the upcoming year. Until next time, ciao!
