Roundup of our favorite skincare ingredients in 2022

2022 has been a beautiful and magical year. Finally having some semblance of normalcy after spending more than three years in a world gripped by the global pandemic, we found the courage to rebuild our lives as we knew it. It has been a year of healing, and recuperating, realizing the importance of health above all. No more will any of us ever take this gift of being alive, healthy and thriving, for granted. Ever.

This year was marked by self-love and self care, where we learnt to cherish and take care of ourselves and our body as it deserves. We invested in skincare, and adopted a more holistic approach to it, knowing full well that beauty is more intrinsic than extrinsic. What we put in our bodies in the form of food, and what our brains consume, play a huge role in how our skin appears.

As such, organically derived and natural skincare ingredients played a huge role in helping our skin thrive and be at its absolute best. Instead of loading up on toxins and harsh ingredients, our skin felt loved and cared for as a result of the gentle and nourishing ingredients that we consciously incorporated into our skincare routines.

The following is a roundup of all our favorite skincare ingredients that we absolutely loved using in 2022, and will surely be continuing to use going forward in the year 2023. If you’re interested to know more about them, keep on reading to find out!

Aloe vera: Our grandmothers were on to something when they touted aloe vera as the ultimate solution for all skin related problems. Be it a wound that needed healing, or a burn that needed some soothing, they believed aloe vera could fix it all. And they were absolutely right. Aloe vera is a wonderful moisturizer, with potent anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce irritation and swelling almost instantly. It can heal sunburn, acne, scars, blemishes and can effectively help relieve the pain associated with eczema and psoriasis. It is also anti-aging and anti-wrinkling and can be safely used on all skin types.

Papaya extract: Not only is papaya a delightful treat, its extract can do wonders in giving you bright and blemish free skin. A gentle exfoliant, it helps to slough away dead skin cells, combat acne, increase cell turnover, soothe irritated skin, improve skin tone and texture and reduce wrinkles. Despite being an exfoliant, it is not stripping or drying for the skin and instead lends hydration and moisture to it, making it soft and supple.

Lavender: Ahh, I love some lavender tea to soothe and calm my senses, washing over me a delightful bliss. And that’s exactly how angry and agitated skin feels when treated with lavender extract. Not only does it instantly soothe and calm down the skin, it fights off acne, dark spots and wrinkles. It also has hydrating properties, making it great to manage dry and flaky skin. No wonder it’s found in the soothing Leovard Tonic

Chamomile: Containing powerful antioxidants including polyphenols and phytochemicals, chamomile can effectively fight off free radicals, in turn helping to protect the skin from the onset of early aging. By accelerating cell renewal, it helps the skin attain a youthful and radiant glow. It also has strong antimicrobial properties, helping to ward off any potential acne breakouts.

Tea tree oil: Used as a spot treatment for acne, blemishes and scars, tea tree oil is packed with potent healing properties. Found in the Leovard Elixir, tea tree oil is nothing short of a miracle ingredient and can drastically change the skin’s condition, even when used in small quantities. It helps to boost wound healing, fights off fungal infections, and helps to brighten up the skin.

Hyaluronic acid: Naturally occurring in the body, hyaluronic acid has the ability to hold up to a thousand times its weight of moisture. It helps to lock in hydration, helping to plump up the skin. It’s the same ingredient used in lip filler injections to give them a temporary fullness, and when used on the lips in the form of a nourishing lip balm like the Leovard Lip Luster, can give you the much coveted fuller and plumper lips.

This list isn’t exhaustive as there are several more that we have thoroughly enjoyed using this year such as vitamin C, vitamin E, lactic acid, salicylic acid and many many more.

Takeaway

Each year brings with it a chance to start afresh and anew, but 2022 was a little bit more special as it gave us back what we had taken for granted; things being the way they are. So let us welcome the upcoming year with the same zeal and fervor, making a promise to always make the choices that are for the betterment of our mind, body, and soul.
